Pupil Premium

What is Pupil Premium?

Pupil premium is a government initiative where the school is given extra funding for eligible pupils. The pupil premium grant is allocated to schools with the intention of:

  • raising the attainment of disadvantaged pupils of all abilities to reach their potential
  • supporting children and young people with parents in the regular armed forces

The PPG (pupil premium grant) for 2023-2024 is £1,455 per eligible pupil or £2,530 per pupil if looked after by the local authority or previously looked after. Service children have an allocation of £335.

The grant may be spent in the following ways:

  • for the purposes of the academy; that is, for the educational benefit of pupils registered at that school
  • for the benefit of pupils registered at other maintained schools or academies
  • on community services whose provision furthers the benefit of pupils at the school

From academic year 2023-2024, schools must utilise pupil premium funding in the following ways:

  • supporting the high-quality teaching, such as staff professional development
  • providing targeted academic support, such as tutoring, including through the National Tutoring Programme
  • tackling non-academic barriers to academic success, such as difficulties in attendance, behaviour and social and emotional wellbeing
